A little more about me
Since 2011, I’ve been editing academic, creative, and business texts, bringing my eye for detail and clearly articulated ideas to the words of others. I began this right after graduate school, which I promptly followed with a professional editing certificate program. My graduate degree was a great opportunity to engage broadly with cultural theory and qualitative research methods, but I’m also a curious person with an interdisciplinary background and have travelled widely.

My diverse background sets me up to work across the disciplines and with all kinds of writers on all kinds of projects:

-
I have a degree in social work (BSW), with 5 years of experience in feminist organizations and also medical social work.
-
I have a degree in fine arts (BFA) and was a practising visual artist for about 20 years, with numerous group shows and solo exhibitions.
-
When I had 3 teenagers at home, I went to graduate school (MA in Culturalï‚· Studies), conducting original qualitative research. You can learn more about my research here: Movies that Matter: Films, Personal Meaning-making, and the Narrative Self.
I've mentored and edited the work of hundreds of people, helping them to produce effective grant applications, research papers, journal articles, books, dissertations, newsletters, novels, short stories, memoirs, and other creative projects.
I’ve taught students at all levels in various aspects of academic writing through the University of Calgary, and taught for the Mount Royal University editing certificate program.
I’ve given workshops on grant writing for academics, and plain language for business and other professionals.
I’ve attended dozens of professional development workshops and conferences to continue to grow my skills and knowledge across both fiction and non-fiction texts.

I've worked with writers in over 90 fields
